Unbreakable.

I built my walls up strong and high

So nothing could harm me;

But when those walls came crashing down

It set my old heart free.

And though this world is dark and cold

When you’re trapped here all alone;

In your absence I’ll find strength

I’ll seek happiness on my own.

(As part of my new blessing counting mantra, I’ve decided my poetry should be a bit more optimistic as I tend to scribble with cynicism most of the time. I’ve always found it harder to capture hope and happiness than melancholy and sadness, but I hope in time I can improve my positive writing and, in turn, my positive outlook in life.)

About Time

I watched a movie about time travel and it made me feel so happy to know that maybe someday I’ll find my somebody. I’ll find someone who will teach me how important and how fragile time is, whose every smile, laugh, tear and word will be a golden second in the great ticking clock of my life- somebody whose every fibre of being is soaked in by my mind, who makes every day a great adventure that I want to relive over and over. I’m intoxicated with the idea that someday I will have someone so special to me that no better time is better than the present, that despite every bright sunrise I’ve seen, every beautiful sky I’ve seen fall, there would be no reason for me to ever turn back to the past- for there seems nothing wonderful than the future awaiting me; a future with this somebody- my somebody.

He Came Down (A Story of Love)

Years ago He came down, a man,
Here to rid the world of a darkness
That spread like poison through the veins of the streets.
He came down to remind us of
The beauty of life
The wonder of love;
To show us the world He had created
To show us the world He could save.

But in the darkest nights of mankind
Love; love seemed like a lost idea for
Blood had been spilled and men had been killed.
The world was in ruins- or so it seemed.

Years ago He came down, a man,
Knowing that if He wanted to save them
Someone had to die.
So He came down and He gave to us
The ultimate sacrifice of life for
The ultimate show of love;
To show us the world He had created
To show us the world He would save.

And on the day He rose again
Sunlight danced like children around his figure,
Eyes widened in awe and disbelief
And a thousand hallelujah’s echoed from lips
‘Thank you, Son of God; Hallelujah!’
In scattered gratitude at His feet.
For we had seen the world He had created,
And from His love, the world was saved.

The Art of Living

I want to live a life full of colour and vitality,
A life full of potential and opportunity;
I want to get out and see the world
Feel foreign soil below my feet and smell
The strangeness of foreign air.
I want to fall in love with life and living,
With personalities, places,
Feelings and faces-
I want to discover.

I want to dance, sing, taste, smell, hear, see
The kaleidoscope of beauty that cascades
Through the air and ripples through the sea.
I want a life full of smiles and laughter,
A life where I wake up with wonder
And fall asleep with satisfaction gliding
On tired but smiling eyes;

And in my time of dying I want not
To think of ‘could have beens’ and ‘what ifs’;
In my final moments I want a familiar smile
To crawl across cracking lips, a smile that knows
‘I may have not lived a perfect life,
But I gave it a damn good shot.’

All Kinds of Friends

There’s so many different kind of people you meet in life, and so many types of friends.

There’s the friends who know everything about you, who could mimic your actions and parrot your words. The friends who know just how to make you laugh or make you happy, who can always tell when something is wrong even when you’re putting on your best brave face. The friends who know your every secret and insecurity, but don’t judge or gossip. The friends who are like your twins, so alike to you that you almost merge into each other.

Then you have the friends you can be stupid with, the ones who you can always count on to make your chest hurt and your eyes stream from laughter. The friends who remind you that life shouldn’t be taken to seriously and help you to see the best side of things. The friends who make you giggle at inappropriate times, or laugh loudly when you should really keep your voice down. The friends that are the most fun to be with, always up for a laugh.

You have the friends that are there for a crisis, when all your other friends turn your back on you. The friends who sit for hours on end listening to your troubles, your angry rants, your fears, giving you advice on what to do or simply just listening to you. The shoulders to cry on, these friends are here for you when you most need them, and know they can come to you when they need you as well.

There’s the friends you text constantly, the friends you only see now and then but your friendship is always as strong as ever, the friends who are there to gossip with, the friends who you always have a good conversation with, the friends you could never get bored of, the friends you couldn’t live without, the friends you can’t remember meeting but will never forget.

And then sometimes out of the blue comes a different friend. A friend who is all of these personalities combined, who you can talk with, laugh with, cry with. A friend who likes some of the things as you, who knows you inside and out and who you know inside out. And you call this person your absolute best friend, and the both of you live happily ever after together in a world of personal jokes, late night deep conversations, random meet-ups and perfectly imperfect friendship.
