A favourite memory of a fading summer was one
Of a warm bass note resonating in a darkening sky,
Where the night slowly cloaked a sea of bobbing heads and tapping feet
And the wafting scent of coffee and rings of cigarette smoke
Intermingled with the maze of music notes that lingered in the air
Long after each musician finished their piece.
Most of all I remember the crisp sweet air that whispered through trees
Above our heads, their branches swinging along with the swaying tunes
Almost as if they felt the music and were dancing with us
To the last few slow numbers of the night.
The Oh Hello’s are a band I discovered in November of last year, and I fell in love with them as soon as I heard their song The Truth is a Cave. It inspired me to write a few pieces (and also made me dance around my kitchen like I was doing a tribal ceremony but that is besides the point) so I would like to share it with you guys. You can view it on YouTube here:
As always, I would listen to it first. Just listen. Then write. I hope you all enjoy it, and feel free to share what you write or who your favourite artists are to get creative to!
Happy writing! (Or kitchen dancing. Depending on your preference.)
Hey guys, I pinky swear (with cherries on top!) that I will do this once and once only. My sister and I have started up a YouTube channel where we’ll be posting covers, music videos and other kinds of things. So if you’re in the YouTube region of the internet come check us out, and subscribe if you like!
You can find us at: http://www.youtube.com/user/kezerin1
Thanks guys! ~thebrowneyeddreamer
Sometimes, I think I like music more than people.
In fact, most of the time I’m pretty sure I do like music more than people.
(Same goes for books actually.)
This is a breathtaking song composed by Dustin O’Halloran which is one of my favourites for writing. It was in fact this song that inspired me to write my post Silhouettes, and in turn I want to give you this song to inspire my fellow writers!
To gain the best effect, I’d suggest finding somewhere quiet and secluded to listen to this song. Plug in headphones, turn on HD, close your eyes and press play. The first way through, I don’t want you to do anything except listen to the music. Breathe in every chord, and once it is over, if you wish, repeat the process. Once you feel you are ready, grab a sheet and a pencil, and replay the song. Once it begins, I want you to take it in again, but this time write everything that comes to mind as it plays. Let your thoughts and feelings splash onto the page as the music washes over you. Replay it as many times as you want, and fill your page with every idea that springs to mind.
Once that is over, you can choose what you want from the notes you’ve made from the page, and you can create something. I’m sure your pieces will be as stunning as the music that flooded through your ears, and I can’t wait to see what you all come up with. Happy writing!
Hi guys, I’d just like to pop in with another announcement for you all. Recently, I’ve been thinking of different ways I could make this blog a little better and also let it be helpful for other writers out there instead of just showcasing my own work all the time. Firstly, I’ve introduced the Feedback page, and now I’m introducing something brand new- Tuesday’s Inspiration. What is this magical thing I hear you ask?
Inspiration. Because what writer doesn’t need a bit of a spark on a Tuesday afternoon?
Tuesday to me has always been a day overshadowed by the rest. Monday is the daunting, dull start to the week that trudges slowly by and Wednesday is our half-way point to Friday which we stampede towards without looking back. With all that rush Tuesday is often overlooked, and passes without much memory. So what better way to make your Tuesday’s meaningful and worthwhile than by spending them writing?
So from now on, each week I’ll post a little bit of inspiration for you all, be it a song I think is good to write to, a picture or a simple text prompt. Prompts have been my friend for a long time, helping me get my mind working on something new, and I hope these little bits of inspiration can help you writers splash your talent onto page.
Make sure to stop by next Tuesday when the first post will be put up, and I hope you enjoy them all! If you have any suggestions for prompts or songs you want posted, fill a form in the Feedback page and I’ll make sure to get back to you. Have a go at them, and make sure to comment or link your work to me; I love reading stuff from the talents of the web. Happy writing, all!
Headphones in; music on. Fall between two intricately strung melodies hanging like lanterns across a starlit sky of crescendos and tempos. Let reality’s grains of sand slip through your fingertips in a morning’s gentle breeze. Close your eyes and breathe until your lungs hold the earth, the planets surrounding; the whole universe and everything it contains. Keep your eyes closed until the light disappears and the darkness opens and envelopes you, welcome and unending. Let your breath leave your lips in slow wisps of troubles, pains doubts, floating away like bubbles soon to burst. Gone. There’s nothing to worry about anymore. Let the goosebumps ricochet like drum beats down your back, let the crinkled frowns etched into your skin be erased. Reach out and feel the calm of the air around you, the serenity that ebbs through every chord that enters your ear. This is your void. Hold the feeling close, and feel free to simply disappear.
